Ernest Hida Receives Commendation from City of Los Angeles
City of Los Angeles Commendation
WHEREAS, Mr. Ernest Hida, a long-time resident of Los Angeles, has been a member of the Los Angeles Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA) for more than twenty years, joining its Board of Directors for most of that time, and
Whereas Ernest Hida has also has been active in community organizations centered in the Little Tokyo District of Los Angeles, including the Little Tokyo Community Council, the Pan American Nikkei Association and the Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple where he served as President during its 100th Anniversary in 2005 and
Whereas Ernest Hida presently volunteers as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Nishi Hongwanji Troop 738 of Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, through his company American Holiday Travel, Mr. Hida has provided invaluable assistance to LANSCA’s Student Exchange Program as well as delegations of LANSCA members who visit Nagoya to meet their counterparts at the time of the Nagoya Festival;
WHEREAS, Ernest Hida served as Chairman of LANSCA from 2008 to 2013 and, among other events, organized the highly successful Los Angeles celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the sister city relationship between Nagoya, Japan and Los Angeles in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Ernest Hida remains active as a member of the Board of LANSCA and, as part of his business travels to Japan, serves as an invaluable avenue of communications between the two sister cities;
WHEREAS, Ernest Hida has embodied the finest spirit of volunteerism by giving selflessly of his time and energy to the furtherance of the goals of the Sister City Program, presenting always the City of Los Angeles in the best light to visitors from Japan, and inspiring others to become active in the program and continue the relationship between the Sister Cities,
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City of Los Angeles, on this day August 9, 2013, at the LANSCA Welcome Dinner, we hereby commend and extend sincere appreciation to ERNEST HIDA for his untiring efforts in promoting goodwill and friendship between Japan and the United States and especially between the cities of Los Angeles and Nagoya through his participation in and Chairman of the Los Angeles-Nagoya Sister City Affiliation.
